Pancreatitis
Minnesota Pancreas and Liver Center Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas which can be extremely painful. The pancreas is behind the stomach. It makes juices to help break down food in the small intestine and also makes hormones, such as insulin, that help the body use and store the energy it gets from food.
Pancreatitis can happen all at once (acute pancreatitis) or occur frequently over a long time (chronic pancreatitis).

Among our many experts in pancreatitis is Dr. David E.R. Sutherland, who developed the breakthrough procedure aimed at preventing diabetes in patients who need to have their pancreas removed (pancreatectomy and auto-islet transplant). Today, we perform more than half these procedures that are completed throughout the world.
