Liver cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the liver. The liver is located just above your stomach. It is one of the body’s major organs – it helps get rid of harmful substances, digests fats, stores sugar which the body uses for energy and makes proteins which are the building blocks for all cells in the body.

If you are diagnosed with liver cancer, you are in excellent hands at the MPLC. We collaborate closely with the University of Minnesota Cancer Center which is one of only 39 comprehensive cancer centers in the U. S. designated by the National Cancer Institute.

Cancer of the liver can be divided into two main types:

• Primary liver cancer, which is cancer that started in the liver
• Secondary liver cancer, or metastatic cancer, which is cancer that has spread to the liver from another part of the body
